Truly, you are the Son of God

The Word of Jesus reveals who He is in eternity and in time. It manifests what the mission the Father has commanded him to do, is. The works he realized, lived, made, certify and confirm the Word. Without works, the Word remains with no historical evidence. Without the Word, the works have no meaning. Never must one separate the work from the Word and never the Word from the works.

This truth also applies to the Church. The Word must reveal the great mystery of the Church: Light of the nations in Christ, the only Truth of salvation and redemption, the perfect discernment on the true and the false, on the just and the unjust, on the way that leads to salvation and the other that leads to damnation. The Word that says the essence of the Church must be constantly supported and evidenced by the works.

This mode, which requires the unity between the Word of revelation of the personal mystery and vocation and the works that must certify the truth of the uttered Word, is witnessed both by the Acts of the Apostles and by the Letter to the Hebrews. For whoever is called to give the world the Word of salvation, through his word, his mission and his own life, combining the two things is mandatory.

You who are Israelites, hear these words. Jesus the Nazorean was a man commended to you by God with mighty deeds, wonders, and signs, which God worked through him in your midst, as you yourselves know. This man, delivered up by the set plan and foreknowledge of God, you killed, using lawless men to crucify him. But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by it.  Therefore, we must attend all the more to what we have heard, so that we may not be carried away. For if the word announced through angels proved firm, and every transgression and disobedience received its just recompense, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? Announced originally through the Lord, it was confirmed for us by those who had heard. God added his testimony by signs, wonders, various acts of power, and distribution of the gifts of the holy Spirit according to his will (Heb 2,1-4).

The Apostles are the only witnesses of all the signs, wonders, miracles performed by Jesus the Lord, because tomorrow they must be the witnesses of the truth of his Person and his mission. Their testimony must be infallibly true.

Then he made the disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone. Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. “It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear. At once (Jesus) spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how (strong) the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” After they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, “Truly, you are the Son of God.” After making the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret. When the men of that place recognized him, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought to him all those who were sick and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed.

Jesus walks on water. This work places him above Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Elisha and every other prophet. No one before Him has done such a thing. He alone. He is above all the old Testament. He is like God. Only He can walk on water and no one else. The disciples see and confess: “Truly you are the Son of God!”. Really what you say about yourself is pure truth. What your words attest, your works prove it. Words and works are one revelation.

Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints make us true in word and deed.
