Father knows what you need

16 JUNE (Mt 6,7-15)

This truth is the principle that is at the foundation of the entire Holy Scripture. It has always been our Heavenly Father the one to know, see, choose every “thing” that the man needs. There is not a moment that he was not the one to take the initiative. The man had just been created and God certainly not the animals and not even all the trees that were in the garden or other things that adorned it, sees what the true good for him is.

The Lord God said: “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him.” So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of them would be its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of the air, and all the wild animals; but none proved to be the suitable partner for the man. So the Lord God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he was asleep, he took out one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. The Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man. When he brought her to the man, the man said: “This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of ‘her man’ this one has been taken.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body (Gen 2,18-24).

I can personally attest that from the day I remember my history the Lord was always the one to know, see, think, decide and choose the best for me without my even being aware of needing them. My life has always been the work of the anticipatory Providence of the heavenly Father. I can confirm – if confirmation were needed – that the Word of Jesus is most pure truth. What he says is Gospel, Prophecy and Oracle. Nothing in him is less true or little true. He says things like they were already lived and not to be lived history. This is the power of his Gospel.

Why, then, pray without ceasing? One must pray to ask the Lord for a single grace: that we can be his true children and in this progeny grow up to reach the perfect fulfillment of his will. The other grace to ask is for every other man: so that he, the others and all become also true children of God in his Son Jesus Christ. Our Father is the prayer for the request and purification, the purification and attainment of true sonship. If we are out of the house of the Father, if we are not His true children, He cannot help us in material things. His help is for those who want to stay in his home; however, living as true children.

In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one. If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you.

Not only does every true child of God live of forgiveness; forgiveness is the beginning of true progeny. As we grow and become perfect in real sonship, then we have to pass from forgiveness to the offer to God, in Christ, of our lives, so that the heavenly Father gives the grace of reconciliation to many of his other creatures that have moved away and live outside of his house. When we come to make this offering to God, then it is a sign that we really grew in the sonship. We have become one body of redemption and salvation with Christ. But if we are not yet able to forgive, it is a sign that we are still weak, small, we have not yet taken the first steps to build a true relationship with our God and Lord. It is urgent then that we put ourselves at work. Reciting “Our Father” with a burning desire to become true children of the Father, in Christ, the Father hears our prayer and we become his real family. We are capable of forgiveness, of mercy, of reconciliation and of peace.

Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints make us true children in Christ Jesus.
